Alison Riske, 2009 SMASH Jr. Cup Champion and recipient of wildcard into Cup

The 8th annual SMASH Jr. Cup presented by Dunlop Sport came to a close on Monday and 18-year-old Alison Riske headed home to McMurray Pennsylvania with a wildcard into the 2009 Family Circle Cup. In two straight sets, No. 4 seed Riske defeated top ranked Kristie Ahn who is currently ranked No. 340 in the world and already has $10,000 in pro career earnings and a US Open match opposite Dinara Safina under her belt. As a Level 3 Southern Tournament, the SMASH Jr. Cup presented by Dunlop Sport brings over 350 nationally ranked girls and boys to the Charleston area competing in 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 age group brackets inviting the winner of the Girls 18 to compete in the Qualifying Draw of the Family Circle Cup via wildcard.   The SMASH Jr. Cup presented by Dunlop Sport is one of only two junior tennis tournaments in America to offer top players the opportunity to compete for a wildcard invitation into a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Premier Event.

Winners of the other divisions include: Girls 16: Ashley Kitchen, Hilton Head Island; Girls 14: Tolley Rice (4) Myrtle Beach; Girls 12: Curran Carver (3) Elgin; Girls 10: Danielle Vines, Elizabethton, TN; Boys 18: John Richmond, Pawleys Island; Boys 16: Austin Ansari (1) Greensboro, NC; Boys 14: Brent Lett (4) Elgin; Boys 12: William Liam Wiggins (5) North Augusta; Boys 10: Brant Fenno (5) Charleston.
