They walked into the College of Charleston’s Tennis Complex having each researched the background of one Cougar tennis player, but the 23 participants of the 2009 Win4Life program finished the day with new friendships and a more in-tune view of what it takes to become a champion. The 8th annual Charleston Win4Life program held its 2nd session on Saturday, February 7 at the College of Charleston’s Patriot’s Point Tennis Complex where participants built friendships and tennis proficiency.
The Win4Life students began the day by introducing their Cougar player and asked the team questions about college life and balancing school, work and play. The day continued with tennis instruction from program founder and former Top 20 player Leslie Allen and Cougar Tennis players and coaches, Jay Bruner, Angelo Anastopoulo and Greg Harkins. Win4Life students finished the day with educational lessons delivered by Allen at the MUSC Wellness Center. Here, the students presented their homework assignments, which they received from Allen via Facebook prior to the session.
The third installment of the six-session youth program is scheduled to be held on March 7, 2009 at The Citadel. In the meantime, while the students look forward to visiting the Bulldogs tennis team, they are reminded that one must work for success as they receive assignments online and work towards improving their mile-running times.
