Twenty three students donning racquets, pens, and eager grins, arrived at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Sat. Jan. 31 to kick off the 2009 Win4Life program. Founded eight years ago by former Top 20 tennis pro Leslie Allen, the program has been fully funded by Family Circe Cup since inception and for the last five years, this important mentoring program has been presented by Prudential, a Family Circle Cup tournament sponsor.
The first of five sessions began seamlessly as students interviewed members of the Family Circle Staff and Prudential Managing Director, Mony Shealy, and presented them to the class. The students then had the chance to let loose on the tennis courts during clinic led by the pros of Family Circle Tennis Center and received one-on-one tennis tips from Allen as she hit and had fun with the students. Throughout the course of ten weeks and five sessions, Win4Life students will learn valuable lessons on how to lead successful lives using the 4D’s, desire, dedication, determination and discipline.
Wrapping up the year’s inaugural session, students received their first assignment via Facebook and left anticipating the next session with the College of Charleston Tennis Team. The culmination of the Win4Life experience is a visit to the Family Circle Cup, where the students will have the opportunity to watch top tennis pros as well as participate in the official draw ceremony. Four lucky students will be chosen by Allen to spend semifinal Saturday with her, behind the scenes, at the Cup.
