The Family Circle Tennis Center, Charleston’s premier public tennis facility, hosted a Tennis Block Party presented by The Daniel Island News to showcase its many tennis programs available for the whole family from 8:30am to noon on Saturday, August 9th, 2008. Growing the game of tennis has always been a top priority for the Family Circle Tennis Center, and this United States Tennis Association (USTA) backed initiative has been a proven catalyst for community growth throughout America’s public facilities. This premier USTA event featured the newest tennis instructional techniques available today designed to introduce tennis in a fun and easy manner where everyone can quickly pick up the game and succeed at this sport of a lifetime.
Children and adults enjoyed a wide selection of free activities beginning at 8:30am with a complimentary continental breakfast and continuing throughout the morning with music, games, drills, contests, “hit & get”, adult tennis zone, Dunlop Racquet demonstration, raffles, prizes, food, snacks, refreshments, and many other activities throughout this day of tennis fun. The public was invited to enjoy raffles throughout the event where they won exciting prizes before the event concluded with a complimentary barbeque lunch at 11:30am.
“Our Tennis Block Party has become one of Daniel Island’s most exciting events of the summer. Hundreds of kids and adults always come out for this free day of tennis fun, food, and prizes, and they leave with a solid knowledge of the game and improved tennis skills so they can enjoy this sport of a lifetime with their friends and families,” commented Rob Eppelsheimer, Family Circle Tennis Center Director, Facilities and Tennis Development. “This event has grown tremendously each year, and with the continued support of The Daniel Island News, this year’s Tennis Block Party is sure to be bigger and better than ever before.”
The Daniel Island News signed on as presenting sponsor of the Tennis Block Party for the third consecutive year, illustrating their strong support of community events throughout the Charleston area. Believing in the power of community, their support has been key to the success of this event and many others throughout the Lowcountry since their inception in 2003.
“The Daniel Island News is proud to support community events which give children, adults, and families the opportunity to experience the island’s many amenities, so we're happy that everyone came out to enjoy an interactive day of fun at the Tennis Block Party,” said Sue Detar, Publisher – The Daniel Island News. “Daniel Island is very fortunate to have a world class tennis facility right here in our backyard, and with the importance of physical fitness in today’s society, this tennis event is the right fit for people looking for an enjoyable activity combined with social interaction.”
