Cup History: With the Tier I Family Circle Cup trophy in hand, Jankovic notched the third and most impressive Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title of her career. After this victory she rose from No. 9 to a new career-high of World No. 7, and road this winning streak to a career high of No. 3 later in the year.
Career Overview: In 2001Jelena played first Tour main draw at Indian Wells as unranked wildcard. Won first career Tour singles title at Budapest in 2004 and played all four Grand Slams in a year for first time. In 2006, won first Tour doubles title at Birmingham with partner La Ni. Had a breakthrough season in 2007 culminating in first Top 10 finish, highlighted by second, third, fourth and fifth career Tour singles titles. Was first season to earn over $1 million (earning over half her career prize money this season alone). Was Tour-leader in match wins w/72. She won 50 matches that year making her fastest since Evert in 1974 to reach that many wins in a season. Won first Grand Slam title of career in mixed doubles at Wimbledon w/Murray. |
