The Tradition Continues - Iva Majoli

Cup History: Tennis history was made at the Family Circle Cup in 2002. As an unseeded player, no one expected to see Iva in the final, but on Sunday there she was facing another unseeded player, Patty Schnyder. The first time in the history of the WTA Tour that a Tier I final was decided between two unseeded players. Iva won the match 7-6(5), 6-4 and became the first unseeded player to win the Family Circle Cup singles championship.

Career Overview: In 1992 Iva received a Wildcard into Houston for Tour debut; ranked No. 537, d. No. 228 Davenport and No. 24 McNeil to reach QF. In 1995 won first two Tour singles titles at Zurich and Filderstadt. First Grand Slam victory at Roland Garros in 1997after defeating No. 1 Martina Hingis in final, was lowest seed (at the time) to win a Grand Slam singles title in Open Era. At 19 years of age, became 11th teenager to win Roland Garros. 
Won career-first doubles title at Paris Indoors. No. 58 at Charleston, won first title since 1997 Roland Garros, becoming lowest-ranked player to win a top-Tier Tour event since Tier system began in 1980. Charleston was first Tier I final ever between two unseeded players, and Majoli became first unseeded player to win Family Circle Cup in its 30-year history.
