Cup History: Mary put together a week of exceptional tennis in 2000 when she captured her first Family Circle Cup title over another seasoned veteran, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario. On the way to the final, she lost only 11 games, and dropped only one game in the final. That outstanding performance solidified Mary’s place in Cup history by tying the record for the shortest singles final (56 minutes), fewest games played in a singles final (13) and fewest games lost in a tournament (12).

Career Overview: In 1989 debut, qualified for Tier II event at Hilton Head, becoming youngest American to turn pro at 14 years, two months, until Jennifer Capriati broke record at 1990 Boca Raton. In 1994 marked first Top 5 finish reaching first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros after ousting No.1 Steffi Graf. Won first Grand Slam title at 1995 Australian Open becoming first Frenchwoman to win a Grand Slam in singles since Francoise Durr at 1967 Roland Garros. At 1997 Australian Open, Pierce became first player to knock off No. 1 seed twice at the Championships in the tournament after defeating No.1 seed Hingis. In 2005 was first player aged 30-years or older to appear in a major final since Navratilova at 1994 Wimbledon. Also joined Graf as only woman to beat three different No.1-ranked women at the same major in Open Era. Pierce has won 18 WTA Tour singles titles and 10 doubles titles.
