Cup History: The “Swiss Miss” made history in 1997, the year she won her first Family Circle Cup. On the first day of the tournament (March 31, 1997) Martina became the youngest No. 1 ranked player at 16 years, 6 months, and one day since computer rankings were created in 1975. Her final against Monica Seles was one of the most exciting in Cup history, and the first championship to be decided by a third set tiebreaker. The match lasted 31 games, breaking an existing record of most games (27) in a singles final recorded in 1988. Two years later, Martina set another tournament record with her win over Anna Kournikova. It was the youngest Cup final ever, where the combined age of the participants was 36 years, five months.

Career Overview: Tour debut on home soil in Zürich 1994; as WC ranked No.378. In 1996 was youngest Wimbledon champion by winning doubles title w/Sukova at 15 yrs, 282 days.
Also won first Tour title that year at Filderstadt . As world No.1, her 12 titles and .938 winning percentage became the best of any player in the 1990s. Was youngest Grand Slam champion in 20th century, winning Australian Open at 16 yrs, 3 mos, 26 days. In 1998 became fourth woman ever to achieve doubles Grand Slam. In 2001 became first player to defeat both Williams sisters in a major. Beginning 2006 unranked, hit highest ranking of comeback at No.7, and remained there for year-end rankings.53 singles match wins that season is third-highest tally.  Has earned $20,130,657 in prize money in career. Hingis has notched 43 WTA Tour singles titles and 37 doubles titles.
