Annual Tennis Block Party & Shelby Rogers Day

Celebrate Shelby Rogers Day at the Family Circle Tennis Center

The Family Circle Tennis Center will host its 7th annual Tennis Block Party from 10:00 am to noon on Saturday, August 17. As part of the festivities the Mayor’s office has declared the 17th “Shelby Rogers Day,” in the City of Charleston, to recognize the success of our local professional tennis play, Shelby Rogers, and her achievement of gaining entry into the main draw of the 2013 U.S. Open.

This free and open to the public event is provided by the Family Circle Tennis Center’s Instinctive Tennis Academy (ITA) to showcase the many tennis programs available for the whole family. Growing the game of tennis has always been a top priority for the Family Circle Tennis Center, and this United States Tennis Association (USTA) backed initiative has been a proven catalyst for community growth throughout America’s public facilities.

“Our Tennis Block Party has grown from a small community happening, to the Charleston area’s largest free tennis event,” said Rob Eppelsheimer, Family Circle Tennis Center Director, Facilities and Tennis Development. “Hundreds of kids and adults will leave with a solid knowledge of the game, and be able to meet WTA tour professional Shelby Rogers.”

Children and adults will enjoy a wide selection of activities, designed for beginner to intermediate players, continuing throughout the morning with music, games, tennis drills, contests, an adult tennis zone, fast serve challenge, lunch, refreshments and much more. Instruction for children eight & under will take place on Charleston’s only permanent USTA 10 & Under Tennis courts.

In addition to this day of tennis fun, complimentary raffles will be held throughout the event offering more than $1,000 in prizes including Family Circle Cup autographed items, Dunlop tennis racquets, Charleston RiverDogs tickets and more. The event will conclude with a complimentary cook-out at noon while watching a tennis demonstration by Shelby Rogers. Please join us for a great day of tennis and help us wish Shelby well as she pursues her life long dream.
