Doubles Specialists Huber, Hlavackova Have Sights on Doubles Crown
By: Nicholas McCarvel

Andrea Hlavackova and Liezel Huber are playing together for the second time ever at the Family Circle Cup this week, but the pair of doubles specialists have acclimated to one another's game just fine in Charleston and Saturday booked themselves a spot in the doubles final.

Sunday they'll face Kristina Mladenovic and Lucie Safarova in the final. A year ago, Safarova won her lone doubles crown with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova here.

The top seeds, Hlavackova/Huber have been in form all week, not dropping a set in their route to the final in three matches. Both have regular partners out with injury.

Saturday they took care of Megan Moulton-Levy and Zhang Shuai with ease, winning 6-0, 6-2 on Billie Jean King Court following the singles semifinals. That came a day after their late-night win over Chan Hao-Ching and Olga Govortsova as play was backlogged due to Thursday's rain.

It was Moulton-Leby/Zhang who had taken out the No. 4 seeds Julia Goerges and Yaroslava Shvedova in the second round, utilizing a match tiebreak to do so.

The route to the final was a straight-sets one for Mladenovic/Safarova, as well. They beat popular wild card duo Jelena Jankovic and Andrea Petkovic to start, then took down No. 3 seeds Vania King and Lisa Raymond.

In the semifinals, they came back from 1-4 down in the second set to beat Australians Ashleigh Barty and Anastasia Rodionova 6-1, 6-4.

It was the Australians who had sent out the No. 2 seeds, Americans Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, a night before.

Huber, who at age 36 has revealed that she is perhaps playing in her final Family Circle Cup, won the title here in 2010 with Nadia Petrova. The American owns 53 career doubles titles and 5 majors. Hlavackova owns 12 doubles titles and one major - mostly with her regular partner Lucie Hradecka.

Mladenovic, a Frenchwoman, owns three career doubles titles.
