By: Nicholas McCarvel

2004 Family Circle Cup champion Venus Williams returns to Charleston Wednesday night for her opening match, headlining a third day that is brimming with quality matches - and former champions.

Williams takes on Monica Puig of Puerto Rico at 7 pm. During the day on Billie Jean King Court, 2011 champ Caroline Wozniacki plays second while 2010 winner Sam Stosur follows the Dane on court. It's the first meeting between Williams, 32, and Puig.

The future - and the present - of American tennis is on display all day long on Althea Gibson Court. Eighteen-year-old Madison Keys battles qualifier Grace Min, 19, in an all-American showdown to start in their first career meeting.

Following that match, former Stanford standout Mallory Burdette meets 2009 Family Circle Cup winner Sabine Lisicki before wild card Andrea Petkovic, a former top ten player, meets American qualifier Vania King.

It's then that No. 9 seed and 2007 Charleston champ Jelena Jankovic takes on up-and-coming Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia in the fourth match on Althea Gibson Court. Their only previous battle went to a third-set tiebreaker. Top doubles seed Liezel Huber of the U.S. pairs with Czech Andrea Hlavackova against Marina Erakovic and Jessica Pegula to close out the day on Althea Gibson Court.

Tennis nuts will get their fill on Court 3 to start where No. 16 seed Laura Robson opens the day against good friend and fellow teenager Eugenie Bouchard. The Brit and the Canadian are seen as two rising star on the WTA.

It's Julia Goerges, the No. 10 seed, who starts the day on Billie Jean King Court. She faces Olga Govortsova of Belarus. Wozniacki, seeded No. 2 here, gets Silvia Soler-Espinosa of Spain.

Stosur, the 2011 US Open winner, meets New Zealander Marina Erakovic while Lucie Safarova, the No. 6 seed here, takes on Mirjana Lucic-Baroni to finish the day session on the main court.

A flurry of doubles matches are included on Court 3, including No. 3 seeds King and Lisa Raymond of the U.S. The No. 2 seeds, American Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, close the night session out on Billie Jean King Court when they face Darija Jurak/Katalin Marosi.
