A POST-MATCH INTERVIEW WITH: CONCHITA MARTINEZ
SECOND ROUND LOSS TO STEPHANIE FORETZ 6-1, 6-2
Q. This has gotta be a disappointing outcome for you given how much
success you've had in this tournament. Can you talk about how hard it
is to go out this early? Can't be something you're accustomed to here.
CONCHITA MARTINEZ: Yeah. I mean it is disappointing, and you know, I had
a really bad day, and I didn't feel like anything was going for me today,
and it's sad when it happens and you can't turn it around. And yeah, I
gotta go back home and practice a lot for the next tournament, you know.
It's hard to lose this way, you know, and you hardly feel that you went
on the court and played.
Q. It seems in the past that this tournament, whether it was here
or Hilton Head, has kind of really jump?started your season a little bit.
I mean what was different this year that hasn't kind of happened in the
CONCHITA MARTINEZ: Well, the difference is that I lost. What can I tell
you? It's just ?? it's a hard tournament. I don't know. Hopefully I still
have some more tournaments on clay and I can play better, you know, on
my surface, but it's hard when you've been in here for such a long time
and coming back, but ranking and I still feel in need of matches.
